Self-Reflection for Your Mental Health: 10 Questions to Ask
How many times do you step back and tell yourself that it’s time to slow down? How many times do you actually take the time to slow down? Don’t be hard on yourself if it’s not as often as you’d like. Life is hard, and it gets a little crazy. But to be a little more self-aware and reflect on parts of your life that may seem little but make a big impact might help you feel more sane.
We put together a list of 10 things we should all reflect on to nurture and improve our mental health and quality of life.
1. Who you have in your circle
Remind yourself of the beautiful and amazing people you share your life with and why you even enjoy being in their presence.
2. Things that drain you and fuel you
It’s easy to get caught up in doing things that we have to do. Think about what you get to do, what makes you feel good, and what does not. How can you make time and space for the things you enjoy the most?
3. How you feel when you are alone
Sitting alone in stillness can bring up many emotions. Not necessarily bad, not necessarily good. But experience those emotions, understand them, and question them to learn more about yourself.
4. What your space is like
They say your environment is a reflection of you. A cluttered home can lead to a cluttered mind. Is your environment set up in a way that benefits your well-being?
5. Things you’ve overcome
While it’s helpful to stay present and appreciate where you are now, think about how far you have come. Maybe you manifested and prayed to be where you are today or to simply grow out of where you were. Think of everything you have overcome and remind yourself that you are going to continue to move forward.
6. How you speak to yourself
It might sound a little crazy, but we all know it’s true. We tend to talk to ourselves a lot. Many may overthink or spend time anxiously in their heads about little things we make big. How do you speak to yourself when you are in your head and alone? When you are stressed, when you mess up, when you do good and feel good—what are those conversations like?
7. Daily habits and routines
Are you living a life that contributes to the life you want the future version of you to live? Ditch the “perfect morning routine” you saw on TikTok by your favorite creator. Reflect on the habits and routines that align with you and how you can incorporate them into your lifestyle. 8. Things you do when you feel low
Self-sabotage. We are all guilty of doing it in some sort of way, and at times it may go unnoticed. When we are not feeling our best, it’s easy to turn to something that brings us comfort. What does that look like to you?
9. How and when you take care of yourself with intention
Self-love and self-care are going to look and feel different for everyone. Our hot take is that it is more than a face mask when you are upset or not feeling well. It’s taking care of your well-being in all aspects of your life. When you are taking care of yourself, is it benefiting your entire mind, body, and soul in the long run? Or is it a quick fix for that one part of you while neglecting the rest? (Our Daily Digital Wellness Planner gives you a layout of the 8 pillars of wellness and how you can improve yours.)
10. What you are grateful for
Take 2 minutes every day to write down 10 things you are grateful for. This exercise will help you appreciate and romanticize the little things we may not realize make our lives easier each day.
